Academic science is a fantastic but challenging career choice. Competition for jobs is huge, expectations from scientific journals are high and a scientist’s role is ever-changing. Juggling these responsibilities can be tough. Studies show that 32% of PhD students are at risk of having or developing a common psychiatric disorder, especially depression. Worldwide rates of depression and anxiety are six times higher in PhD students than those in the general public. We strongly believe that with great mental health comes great science. We should all get on board with this message. For those in a new country, far from their home and loved ones, the coming holiday period can be especially challenging. That is why we are offering workshops from 9th - 11th of December, before the holidays, where you can get access to tools and methods which can help you cope with stress and stay above the waves. We will get in touch with you about the details soon! If you already feel that the ceiling is falling on your head or just want to talk to someone from the outside, our MPSP office team member Adrienn is a certified Mental Health First Aider.
