When skilled people come together, they find good topics to discuss on a high level very easily. That's the idea of a "BarCamp" - a format in which topics can be discussed without the narrow frame or static setting of a panel discussion or workshop. And the best: Multiple topics can be discussed in parallel, completely upon the wishes of the participants!
Therefore, YOU can propose a topic you want to discuss with your peers. At the conference, we will give every proposed topic a space to let the discussion flow openly with everything you need - probably a flipchart, pens and drinks. All of them are in close vicinity to each other like islands and participants can wander around to join the discussions they are interested in. Organizational details will follow as the Autumn School approaches.
For now:
What do you want to talk about? It can be almost anything! How about the quality of your supervision? Or the stability of phase retrieval algorithms? Or perspectives for careers in academia? Perhaps the review process in scientific publishing? Or how you would envision your ideal MPSP program? Go ahead, just say it! Now is the time to propose topics, just fill out this form. To give you a start, we show our first topic proposal below.
TOPIC 1: AI in Academia
Since its release, ChatGPT has already made a huge impact in a lot of aspects in academic life. While discussions of teaching staff are full of worries about the originality of students' solutions to assignment sheets, researchers are enthusiastic about the help with coding or writing e-Mails, grant proposals, papers or thesis reviews. Students could now have their own personal tutor who will always explain slowly and patiently depending on one's personal needs. But how much AI will be in your thesis and what about the originality of your work then? What else can generative AI be used for and what are your experiences in working with it?
