You work in a chemistry lab – but have you ever wondered what it really takes to turn a milliliter into a ton? Why can’t every synthesis simply be scaled up? And why do some processes fail as soon as they move beyond the lab? Transferring a successful lab synthesis to production scale is often one of the biggest challenges in chemical process development. This workshop explores the real-world challenges of scaling up chemical processes.
Together, we will examine why successful laboratory syntheses may fail at production scale, which laboratory methods cannot easily be scaled, and where physical limitations, safety requirements, and economic considerations come into play. The workshop will help you identify common pitfalls and develop strategies to avoid them. You will learn how to apply these insights to your own laboratory work and how to design robust processes with scale-up in mind.
Participants are very welcome to bring examples and challenges from their own work for discussion.
